Participant Manuals and Power Point Presentations

Note: Reading the CERT basic training manuals will not make you a CERT. At the present time, there is no CitizenCorps-recognized CERT course that incorporates both home and instructor-led, hands-on elements.

The manuals are available in Microsoft Word and PDF formats; the accompanying visuals files are in Power Point and PDF formats.

Word:

If you do not have MS Word on your computer, you can find a free Word Viewer at Microsoft's site.
If you are using a dial-up connection, you may wish to download the individual Word files, linked below.
The Word files are also available in a singled zipped file. If you do not already have a program that will unzip files, you can download and install CAMunzip, or PKWare, or WinZip.
PDF:

The manual is also available in two zipped PDF files. If you don't already have a program that opens PDF files, you can download free PDF viewers from Adobe or FoxIt.
Power Point:

The Power Point program is used to create slides and play slide shows. If you do not already have Power Point installed on your computer, you can download and install a free PP Viewer appropriate for your computer from Microsoft's site.

Anyone can take CitizenCorps' online CERT Course Overview (IS-317), and their Search & Rescue Tutorial. NOTE: Reading the manuals will not make you a CERT. At the present time, there is no FEMA- or CitizenCorps-recognized CERT course that incorporates a no-class home study program with a final instructor-led hands-on scenario day.
